NSA/DHS Recognition of CityU as National Center of Academic Excellence
The National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) support educational programs designed to establish higher education in the fields of information assurance throughout the country. The NSA and DHS designate certain educational programs in the field of information assurance, cybersecurity, or information security as Centers of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance – Cyber Defense (CAE/CD). The CAE/CD designated programs must have passed stringent requirements and reviews as well as demonstrated their commitment to academic excellence in the information security field. The intention of the CAE/CD designation is to increase the number of professionals with higher education in the field of information assurance, cybersecurity, or information security with an overall goal to protect the information infrastructure of the United States. In 2014, City University of Seattle was designated a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance – Cyber Defense education by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). City University of Seattle is one of the few in the State of Washington to receive this recognition. Securing cyberspace and information infrastructures is more important now than ever before. NSA’s goal in establishing centers of academic excellence is to reduce vulnerability in our national information infrastructure by promoting higher education and research in information assurance, cybersecurity, and information security, to graduate more professionals with such expertise in various disciplines. This designation lead by faculty members from the Technology Institute applies to the entire university. City University of Seattle looks forward to continuing its role as a center of excellence in information assurance, cybersecurity, and information security to provide a greater level of service and expertise to the nation in this critical area.
